Deck, Drywall and Lag Screws
are typically used to secure deck boards to the deck joists but can be used in many other wood-to-wood applications indoors and out. We carry deck screws from one inch in length up to six inches. With screws longer than six inches the torque is too much for the screw head. Please see our selection of timber screws for these applications.
are used to attach sheets of drywall. Coarse drywall screws are used when drilling into wood studs, because they install faster and have a greater pull-out strength. Fine drywall screws are used to drill into metal framing, because they have a sharper point. All drywall screws have a coating of black phosphate.
Stainless Steel For Maximum Corrosion Resistance
For outdoor decks, docks, or decks with corrosive woods stainless steel is the way to go. It is generally more expensive and is a softer material but its ability to withstand the elements makes it a must for many projects. Oversize the diameter by one to prevent break-offs and/or pre-drill with harder woods.
Ceramic Coated / Dacrotized
Ceramic provides much of the protection of stainless without sacrificing the strength of the steel.
Not recommended in ACQ treated lumber.
Standard steel deck screws with a thin yellow zinc plating. The zinc plating provides enough protection for indoor applications but will not work in moist areas or outdoors.
Composite Deck Screws
Composite decking requires a deck screw with finer thread to tighten the composite board to the underlying joist. These screws are colored to match the various composite installations.
Timber screws are "glorified" deck screws with a green long life coating. They are used to hold landscaping timber together, or for log home or pole barn construction. They can be installed with a cordless drill and unlike nails can be removed when needed.
Lag screws are similar to wood screws. Lag bolts are designed for securely fastening heavy timbers to one another, or to fasten wood to masonry or concrete.
